A Spot of Food and Music to Sooth the Soul
The spirit, music and taste of New Orleans are coming to an end as Slap Ya Papa’s Bayou Banquet hits its final weekend
Slap Ya Papa, the Louisiana inspired supper club founded by Lucie Massey in 2013, has taken over the Waterloo Vaults for the past fortnight, with its blend of soul food (with Orlean’s classics such as big pot shrimp boil), cocktails and the best lazy jazz from bands such as Kansas Smittys.
This Saturday night sees the Marble & Wares Bidders Bazaar during the day and the Bidder Banquet in the evening. From 10.30am - 5pm, the Bazaar will become an extension of the bustling Saturday market atmosphere of Waterloo’s Lower Marsh, with artisan soul food snacks from the Slap Ya Papa café space also available throughout the day. In the evening, the market is cleared to make way for the Marbles & Ware X Slap Ya Papa Bidders’ Banquet; a 5 course feast with live music whilst Marbles & Wares’s eccentric auctioneers manage the bidding for latest works from the Next-Big-Things featured in their Southern Wilds exhibition. With the auction over, a New Orleans party kicks off with live bands and DJs.
On Sunday, an all day brunch – eggs, bacon, grits and sausage washed down with Bloody Marys finishes off a lazy weekend to a T and sees toe tappin’ live music from Brixton bluesman and three-time UK harmonica champion Errol Linton alongside long time accomplice and guitar virtuoso Adam Blake.
