Editor’s Letter August 15

Riddle celebrates our first 12 months

Letter by Rupert Watkins

Dear Reader,

I never thought I’d see the day….. Riddle Magazine hits its first birthday in rude, bouncing health. Despite sleepless nights, grey hairs and actually having to learn to write in sentences, we remain intact to take a fresh, straightforward look at the world of attainable, contemporary luxury.

In a world dominated by enormous and soulless luxury conglomerates, canny buyers are becoming ever more concerned as to the provenance and quality of what they spend their hard earned on. We at Riddle hope, by showing some of the new, up-and-coming and affordable brands, to demonstrate there is life in tailoring, style, art, food, travel and motoring beyond the confines of Mayfair and West London and a bank balance that needs Fort Knox to keep it in.

This month the team have been busy travelling. Basel Tourism made the wonderful mistake of inviting me to cover the Tattoo and our Business Development Director, Marion, has been messing around in boats at the Panerai British Classic. Away from such frivolousness, John Galt our watch guru, continues to explain and simplify the mysteries of horological terminology and Kate Slotover, our literary hound continues to search out the most engaging books for poolside reading. Oh yes….I think our Creative Director Andy might have photographed something too….. you have.?……..splendid.

With so much to cover, one can only hope the coming year will be as fun as the first (minus the stress – it really is like having a recalcitrant child…). It only remains to thank everyone who has given their time to help us get where we are and to you, the reader, for keeping faith with us – and putting up with my mangled grammar.….

Best Wishes riddle_stop 2
