Craft, Elegance… and Determination

The start of this month sees London Craft Week, but from the possible car of the future in Toyota’s Mirai through to chatting with injured veteran Jaco van Gass in the run-up to the Invictus Games, we have an enlightening buffet of reading for you…

Dear Reader,

With the twin blows of both BHS and Austin Reed going into administration, it is perhaps timely and pertinent that the first week of this month sees London Craft Week (LCW) with us organising the event’s tours of Savile Row. Luxury and consumerism is evolving at a bewildering rate. Chatting with LCW’s chairman Guy Salter in my main interview for the month, it becomes ever clearer that the surge in discrimination and understanding is becoming ever more critical to the marketplace and the way firms position themselves and tell their story.

Looking to the Row and its immense history and prestige, Riddle Magazine is privileged to be running a number of tours through Craft Week (May 3 – 7) taking in Dege & Skinner, Huntsman and Kathryn Sargent as these artisans tell their story and lift the veil on the sheer complexity of their workmanship.

Away from the august environs of Mayfair, our Business Development Director Marion gets to grips with Maserati’s latest SUV the Levante whilst at the polar opposite end of the driving spectrum, Marc Stickely, our Motoring Editor, considers the driving future when trying out Toyota’s hydrogen fuelled Mirai. I also chat with veteran, Para-Olympic hopeful and all-round damn nice chap Jaco van Gass as he looks forward to the Invictus Games and (fingers crossed) Rio.

With summer approaching, Tony Martin from Benson & Clegg gives some guidance of that wardrobe staple, the blazer, and Andy Barnham our Creative Director ponders the northern charms of Jesmond Dean Hotel in Newcastle. Laura Bingham sends us her latest from the hills and (pot holed) roads of South America and if all of this is just too much, Tori Snowball has the lowdown on Urban Massage.

Best Wishes,
