Exploring Nature’s Beauty
The Shepherd Market brothers have released their latest collection of fine jewellery inspired by the building blocks of life

Shepherd Market denizens GUY&MAX have recently released their latest collection of digitally and 3D printer designed jewellery. For just over a decade the two brothers have been at the forefront of innovative and unusual creative methodology. This constant pushing of both the conceptual and practical limits of how jewellery can be made has now resulted in their Digital Nature Collection.
Max Shepherd has long been passionate about approaching his art from a fresh angle, “As software tools have become more sophisticated, less restrictions are placed on the original concept, which means that after so many years we no longer need to be influenced by older processes.” The Digital Nature Collection looks to explore mankind’s relationship and equilibrium with the natural world around us. Inspired by the honeycomb geometry of bee’s nests, this natural structure pervades the rings, earstuds and pendants in the collection. Black, yellow and white diamonds are set within this organic shape. There are homages in some of the rings to the Edwardian manner of ring settings – for example a Paraiba tourmaline and diamond engagement ring. The natural world also influences the selection of materials, “whether it be the use of recycled gold rather than mined or the careful sourcing of our gemstones,” as Max comments.
Jewellery is a personal, intimate item – much of it is worn next to the skin. Its design and evolution is being led by the desire to tell a story or put emotions into a physical form merely than what is available in a boutique. Max describes being recently commissioned to create a pair of wedding rings, “that depicted the often rocky journey through life” as he puts it. This psychological investment by purchasers in jewellery pieces is what drove GUY&MAX to open their own salon. “Lovers of fine jewellery are becoming increasingly disenfranchised by many big brand products and service. Our niche captures those that adore originality, creativity and a passion for individuality” says brother Guy, “I wish that people knew more how much time and passion every jewel takes us to consult on, design, model and then create.”
The Digital Collection is a small selection of nine pieces including a bracelet and personalisation work can be done on individual pieces. Ranging from £800 to £8,000 these are an unusual, intimate and beautiful gift for the love of your life this festive season.
