Long to reign over us
Elizabeth II becomes the longest reigning monarch in 1, 000 years of British history
Today, Elizabeth II will have been on the throne 63 years and 216 days and at 5.30pm this afternoon, Buckingham Palace estimates that she will pass Queen Victoria’s current record of 23,226 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes. The exact time that Her Majesty out- reigns her her great-great grandmother is not precise, due to the uncertainty of the timing of the death of her father, George VI, who died in his sleep.
At 5.30pm this afternoon it will be business as usual for her Majesty who, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, will official open the Scottish Borders Railway.
