Riddle gets up close with the owner of British watch brand Pangbourne

If you knew then what you know now… would you still do it?
We’ve been established for over ten years. It took the first four years to face metaphorical mountains and overcome technical difficulties. From the outset, my creative position was “No Compromise”. Once the first timepiece was finished and I held it in my hand, I knew that in my mind we had created perfection. That sense of creative achievement can only be felt to be understood. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Be true to yourself, and do not compromise.”

What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
After winning the European Air Race Championship, I heard through the grape vine that I was going to attempt to break the London to Cape Town return flight record in a single engine plane. Alas, that will have to wait a few years…

What was your biggest break?
I’m still waiting for it!

What other watch brands do you admire?
Taking into account technical ability, beauty of design and global brand positioning, I do like and admire IWC, Rolex, Panerai and Bremont.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Flying, flying and flying. Oh yes………. and The Smiths!
