Riddle me this… Edo Mapelli Mozzi
Up close and personal with the CEO of Banda Property
If you knew then what you know now… would you still do it?
Yes I would, though I would make some changes. I am a perfectionist and always looking for better ways of developing and improving the way I run the Banda business. In life, the same applies. Mistakes are learning experiences, not a reason to regret.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
My stepfather Christopher Shale told me to ‘never give up’. I learned from an early age that a quitter never wins and a winner never quits. With this in mind, it has become second nature to always given 100 per cent to everything I do - in life and in work.
What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
Not for print – I like my private life to stay private.
What was your biggest break?
It’s still to come – I have been fortunate to have had many mini breaks, so to speak, but the biggest one is always just around the next corner.
Do you consider yourself lucky?
Absolutely, I have my health, a wonderful family and extremely good friends. These are the most important things in life.
What’s most important in your life?
Making those around me loved, happy and secure – family always comes first.
What brands do you admire?
Brands that make life easier. Apple, Mr Porter and Uber for instance. I am time poor and therefore anything that saves me time is always welcome. At Banda we work under the maxim of ‘designs for living,’ and my ear is always tuned into the design technology world. Nest and Crestron are transforming the home for good.
Do you have a guilty pleasure – if so what is it?
Yes holidaying in Lamu, Kenya. There is almost no phone reception, which means that I can completely switch off, unwind and recharge unlike anywhere else in the world. This downtime is a real luxury and the best pleasure possible. I’m also partial to a small dram of Lagavulin 16 year old when I’m working late into the night!
Describe your personal sense of style.
I’m more about understatement than overstatement, and I love simplicity and elegance. My ‘uniform’ is a blue suit from Savile Row, a white shirt paired with a Hermes tie. I have over 40 ties.
