5 years since the opening of ‘The Bar With No Name’, at 69 Colebrooke Row, drinks creator and author Tony Conigliaro has released a compendium celebrating his bar, its cocktails and their clientele.
Article by Andy Barnham
Inspired by 1950s Italian cafes and film noir the bar prides itself on reworkings of old classics with unusual ingredients to create cocktails such as the Fig Tom Collins and the Green Almond Army & Navy. The book includes 40 drinks recipes which have featured on the menu since the opening in 2009 along with the stories behind them, such as the Barbershop Fizz (inspired by the refreshing sensation of an open razor shave combining pine-infused gin, birch and vanilla syrup, patchouli-infused mint, lime juice and soda water) and the Terroir (a distillation of flint, lichen and clay).
Photography and illustrations serve to bring light to the bar beyond the drinks; eccentric regulars, drinks enthusiasts, locals and the staff themselves pose at 69 Colebrooke Row with their poisons of choice. ‘The pleasure of drinking in a bar is a pleasure of many kinds. Each of my drinks will tell you a story, if you are willing to hear it’ Tony observes. Pour me Tony.
