Riddle me this… Louise McGuane
Up close and personal with the founder of Chapel Gate Irish Whiskey Co
If you knew then what you know now… would you still do it?
Without a doubt. The entrepreneur journey is the best I have ever taken, even on the darkest days I don’t regret a thing.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Years ago my father told me “When navigating an airport read all the signs all the time.” I used to travel about 70% of my time for work and getting in and out of airports as rapidly as possible became very important to me, This piece of advice has probably saved me several wasted weeks wandering around airports.
What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
I’ve heard a few malicious ones but nothing weird. I’m not a gossip person.
What was your biggest break?
Getting my first job in the drinks industry working in PR & Marketing for Champagne Veuve Clicquot when I was 23 and living in New York City. They found my resume on Monster.com and called me in for an interview!
Do you consider yourself lucky?
I believe that there is a direct correlation between how hard you work and how lucky you are. I’ve worked hard to create opportunities in my life that led to wonderful things. Most importantly I was lucky enough to recognise those opportunities when they arose.
What’s most important in your life?
My husband is, but I’m so focused right now on building the business that may not be completely apparent all the time. Next up are my family and our dog Ruby. Ruby is VERY important….
What other brands do you admire?
Victoria Beckham is astounding to me. The evolution of her brand into fashion could have gone much differently. Instead she’s managed to create something covetable that I admire greatly.
Do you have a guilty pleasure – if so what is it?
I am a very dedicated Star Trek and horror/ Sci Fi fan. My Netflix history is very embarrassing….
Describe your personal sense of style.
On the farm in Ireland I sport a rugged country look to protect against the elements which is also suitable for riding my horse J.J.. In London I try to rock a casual chic vibe.
