Riddle me This… Morris Richardson
Up close and personal with the father and son team, Andrew and Tom Morris Richardson behind new British watch brand Morris Richardson
If you knew then what you know now……….would you still do it?
Tom: Without a doubt! The experiences that come with launching your own business and brand, although very challenging at times, is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences.
Andrew: Absolutely, it is the greatest time to launch a new brand in the UK and Internationally captalising on the significant global opportunities of e-commerce and at the same time being able to deliver a very personal touch to our customers. All very exciting indeed!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Tom: Never give up! Having your own business, especially at the start, means you must be the jack of all trades which of course brings so many exciting but also challenging experiences. I believe one of the skills of a successful entrepreneur is the ability to continue to move forward and overcome whatever hurdles lie in front of them, but clearly always have your goal in mind.
Andrew: Surround yourself with a great skilled and talented team of people, ensure that they have a clear vision of the business strategy and let them fully harness their potential in driving business success.
What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
Tom: Thought I was a star when I got out of a Phantom at a restaurant in LA and the valet asked me if I would like him to park my car. I wish!
Andrew: A New York taxi driver thought I was a previous member of the England Cricket Team!
What was your biggest break?
Tom: To be contacted by a British fashion brand about a potential collaboration. Watch this space!
Andrew: The opportunity to set up and manage businesses across the globe.
Do you consider yourself lucky?
Tom: Indeed! I have been very fortunate to grow up around very supportive and inspiring individuals which has no doubt influenced launching Morris Richardson as the go-to British lifestyle watch brand.
Andrew: I believe that you make your own luck. Being in the right place at the right time also plays a key factor in this.
What’s most important in your life?
Tom: To wake up each morning and feel inspired and to look forward to what each day has in store. Entrepreneurship brings so many exciting opportunities!
Andrew: Each day brings new experiences! To be fulfilled, both in terms of a great business perspective and family life are truly important. To be able to pass on lifelong skills that you gain to your children and to your colleagues can bring life changing benefits to them.
What brands do you admire?
Tom: Ralph Lauren. Very much aspirational yet accessible, I believe this has been one of the key reasons for Ralph Lauren’s long-term success in the world of fashion with its iconic, sophisticated and classic pieces.
Andrew: Tom Ford. From their exquisite suits and tailoring to their informal range, Tom Ford is the essence of desirable and sophisticated style, delivered with a personal touch. This provides a fabulous ‘feel good’ factor and its look is iconic across the globe.
Do you have a guilty pleasure – if so what is it?
Tom: Cars! Not the cheapest of hobbies but I have also been intrigued and excited by the automotive world.
Andrew: Travel and being able to visit places that I could once have only dreamed of. I also have a passion for the great advances in commercial aviation and having the opportunity to travel at twice the speed of sound!
Describe your personal sense of style.
Tom: Very much smart casual but with a modern and fashionable take. Obviously sporting a signature Morris Richardson watch!
Andrew: Classic style with a modern twist, love watches and cufflinks, two great irresistible pleasures for me!
