Riddle me this… Richard Marshall
Riddle gets up close and personal with the owner of Pall Mall Barbers
If you knew then what you know now… would you still do it?
100 per cent!! You are shaped by your experiences – some good and some bad. You usually learn more from your bad ones than the good, if nothing else you learn not to do something again…!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Hmmm… loads of stuff comes to mind actually. Probably one of the best pieces of advice was from an ex client when I was looking to name Pall Mall Barbers (the previous name was Pall Mall Toilette Saloon). He said, “always remove your ego from the business.” I think that’s absolutely critical.
What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
Haha! Well…. some years ago my manager called me in about a rumour that I was dating one of the staff. We both knew there wasn’t anything in it, so we laughed and I gave the boss creative license to push the rumour about a bit……. I was batting off question for weeks….!!!
What was your biggest break?
I’m a great believer in the best is always to come. My biggest turning point was when I began to believe in myself. Success started to breed success (I struggled for confidence when younger due to severe dyslexia).
Do you consider yourself lucky?
You create your own luck. Luck follows gutsy and intelligent actions.
What’s most important in your life?
My spiritual connection and freedom- doing what I want when I want. With success comes options and the ability to maximise that freedom.
What brands do you admire?
I am a huge admirer of Apple under the late Steve Jobs. His vision and legacy is simply mindblowing.
Do you have a guilty pleasure – if so what is it?
MMA – I love it!! I love the warrior spirit and dedication they bring into the ring and how they also overcome their own personal challenges.
