Riddle me this… Trevor Pickett
Up close and personal with retail legend and owner of leather goods company Pickett
If you knew then what you know now……….would you still do it?
Yes, of course. How else does one ever learn? Mistakes are the making of a man.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
If own a mediocre racehorse, put it with the best ones, as it will help it to rise. It you put it with lesser horses, it will sink to the common low.
What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
That I corridor-crept to a senior figure within the British Formula 1 circuit. I wish I had. He knows I think he’s hot.
What was your biggest break?
Meeting my business partner, who has always been there and supported me.
Do you consider yourself lucky?
Yes, I am so lucky I pinch myself all the time.
What’s most important in your life?
The happiness of those around me; thus I am happy.
What brands do you admire?
I hate this current trend of the predatory wanting to own something, and so often something one doesn’t truly understand – in the sense of craftsmanship and true value. The aspiration is used to give the owner street cred, but the truth is if they had passion, they would create something for themselves! If I were asked which brand would I like to have been born into it… I would say Hermes or Goyard.
Do you have a guilty pleasure – if so what is it?
