Tudor launches an exclusive Black Bay for Harrods

One of the brand’s iconic models, the Heritage Black Bay family celebrates over 60 years of diving watches with extraordinary heritage. The characteristic elements of the Heritage Black Bay have been drawn from Tudor’s history; it inherits the lines as well as the domed dial and crystal from the first Tudor diving watches. It features the particularly prominent winding crown (known as the Big Crown) and borrows the characteristic angular hands, known as snowflake, from the watches delivered in large quantities to the French National Navy in the 1970s.

The history of the Tudor divers’ watch dates back to 1954 and the launch of Reference 7922, the first in a long line of ergonomic, accurate and robust divers’ watches, embodying the approach formulated by the American architect Louis Sullivan, according to whom the form of an object must follow its function. Furthermore, it laid down the aesthetic and technical foundations of an ideal divers’ watch, those of an understated, functional and reliable tool. The sixty years that followed the launch of the original 7922 saw the constant improvement of the Tudor divers’ watch and each model gained unanimous acclaim from professionals in the field, including some of the greatest military navies in the world.

This exclusive Tudor Black Bay for Harrods timepiece stands out within the Black Bay family with unique features that pay homage to the (in) famous Harrods green. The bezel of the watch, the tip of the seconds hand and the waterproof depth rating “660 ft/200m” on the dial all come in the iconic shade of Harrods’ green. The depth rating has been further modified to show the feet first rather than metres to reflect the Britishness of Harrods. Honouring Tudor’s military past each case back is engraved, and uniquely numbered, in military style; with large Arabic numerals alongside the letter H from the Harrods logo.

The Tudor Black Bay for Harrods comes with a steel bracelet, inspired by the brands riveted 1950s & 1960s bracelet alongside a complimentary black fabric strap which is a signature feature of Tudor’s Heritage line. riddle_stop 2
