As the nights draw in, the need for something warming grows. We talk soup with Yorkshire Provender
What’s the, arguably eternal, appeal of soup?
It’s not all doom and gloom after a long hot summer like we’ve had as rich, warming flavours come onto the food radar. There is something irresistibly reassuring about soup and from seasonal soups, to steaming broths, coming home to a bowl of something bursting with healthy autumnal ingredients is just what the nip in the air demands, as we welcome cosy nights in back with open arms.
What do you think has been your recipe for success?
We pride ourselves on our core values of outstanding quality and provenance and have built a robust and loyal consumer base from this. We’re also continuously creating soups with adventurous flavours, full of natural ingredients and nutrients fit for each season.
Do you have a brand ethos?
We are the UK’s leading premium branded soup, successfully built on a mission: ‘the most delicious soup you can buy.’ Our small team has a real passion for cooking and we believe this comes across in our finished soups, made with an abundance of fresh herbs and vegetables.
Why choose Yorkshire Provender over other soup brands?
Every single one of our soups are produced in small batches, and made with simple, natural ingredients and Yorkshire provenance. Our soups are naturally healthy too. Most are coeliac friendly, naturally low in fat and containing absolutely no added sugar. We try to use local ingredients as much as we can. Our new Super Broccoli Soup with Yorkshire Cheddar is finished with crumbly mature Yorkshire Cheddar Cheese, typically aged 15 months for extra strength and character, sourced locally from award winning, Wensleydale Creamery.
Top tips for making your own, home-made, soup?
Just like our soups, we’d suggest using the freshest ingredients you can, locally grown if possible and have fun with your soup making. If you need some inspiration, we’ve created a cook book called ‘Delicious Soups’, full of lots of ideas for cooking up some tasty soups at home.
Why choose to support/ partner with Centrepoint?
We are proud to be partnering with Centrepoint, aiming to give homeless young people a future. We’ve launched a new soup to support Centrepoint’s Big Broth campaign, a Red Pepper & Chorizo soup exclusively available to buy in Waitrose, with 20p per pot sold going directly to the charity.
The soup was created by Omero Gallucci, home cook from Guildford who won the 2018 Centrepoint Big Broth cook-off competition to find the tastiest home-made soup recipe.
Centrepoint’s Big Broth is bringing the nation together on 2nd November to turn the nation into Souper Troupers, with the aim of more than 3,000 soup parties being held across the country in homes, offices and community spaces, to raise money for the cause. You can download a soup party starter pack here: www.centrepoint.org.uk/bigbroth
