Riddle catches up with Oliver Pollock – founder of Luxury Watch Repairs and vintage watch fan about Omegas and Looney Tune socks…

If you knew then what you know now… would you still do it? 
I wake up every morning looking forward to the challenges of the day that are never the same as each watch has a different issue to resolve. To be able to restore a clients’ watch is just as exciting for us as it is for them. It’s great to be building a base of clients that are already becoming loyal to our business. I think it’s our approach that is different to traditional watch servicing and repairs that makes us different. We provide total transparency for our clients so that they know what we are doing every step of the way. We have recently introduced an addition to the service so that clients can receive a time lapse video of their watch servicing/repair.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
My Grandfather, started a watch strap business in the 1960’s. His ambition and success really encouraged me to continue the family tradition of evolving a business within the watch space. His wisdom and knowledge have taught me that business can have its ups and downs but you just have to persevere and keep going, and be sure to build a great team around you.

What’s the weirdest rumour you’ve ever heard about yourself?
I heard a rumour that Luxury Watch Repairs service centre is open until 10pm! This makes it easy to drop off your watch on your way out, after work or on your way home, and as we are located so centrally, it makes it so easy. This rumour is absolutely true!

What was your biggest break?
Becoming a Level 3 Omega & Longines Service Centre. This enables us to not only restore the most technical watches whilst using all original parts but also ensures our watchmakers are trained in full for this.

Do you consider yourself lucky?
Yes – in the sense that I am able to work in an industry that I love and offer transparency like never before. The Luxury Watch Repairs mission is refreshing as our USP brings watch servicing into the 21st century. It’s our trained and certified watchmakers, pricing structure, fast and efficient turnaround (10-14 days) complete with a 2 year warranty, and step by step close and personal communication with clients.

What’s most important in your life?
Vintage Omegas… what else?!

What other brands do you admire?
Omega for the history, heritage and innovation. Under Armour, for the bravery of launching a new brand into an already saturated market. Brunello Cucinelli for the quality, style and sophisticated elegance of the brand. Bergano Greys for the best tailored basics for effortless style.

Do you have a guilty pleasure – if so what is it?
Looney Tunes socks. For generations, Taz Scare, the Tasmanian Devil has been a favourite for anyone who has watched Looney Tunes, and this includes me! I have quite a collection of character socks including Daffy Duck, Road Runner, Bugs Bunny and Wylie Coyote! Most of them have the character on the side and their name on the top of the foot !

Describe your personal sense of style.
